Bio
I believe in faith,
despite the universe
seething and reeling
hissing like a spoiled child
and glowing like an emaciated ascetic
fat with wisdom.

Life is random and chance will hold your hand
and throw you to soft clouds
which we call dreams,
whether they may float up to where you might want
or dissolve and be forgotten
as you plummet to the wolves.

And change?
that will be the most constant thing in any life led ever.

"[The literary image] is polyphonic because it is polysemantic. If meanings become too profuse, it can fall into word play. If it restricts itself to a single meaning, it can fall into didacticism. The true poet avoids both dangers." -Gaston Bachelard

"Any mind that is worth calling a mind must have needs beyond the existing categories of language, just as a painter must have pigments or shades more numerous than the existing names of the colours." -Ezra Pound (1916)

"In my time, I have found a solace and consolation in the written word. The universe I inhabit remains a mystery but I go on living and writing, nonetheless, as though there were a reason for both. Almost every day I create an order on the page, which reflects the order I see in the world. Whether it actually is one or not doesn’t matter as much as the fact that the quest moves me forward as though I am headed somewhere, and rescues me from the despair that would overwhelm me if I were not." -David Horowitz (2005)

"Artistic growth is, more than it is anything else, a refining of the sense of truthfulness. The stupid believe that to be truthful is easy; only the artist, the great artist, knows how difficult it is." -Willa Cather, The Song of the Lark.

"Art lies in suggestion." -Robert Bresson

"The man of taste explained very clearly how a piece may be in some manner interesting without having a grain of merit. He showed, in a few words, that it is not sufficient to throw together a few incidents that are to be met with in every romance, and that to dazzle the spectator the thoughts should be new, without being farfetched; frequently sublime, but always natural; the author should have a thorough knowledge of the human heart and make it speak properly; he should be a complete poet, without showing an affectation of it in any of the characters of his piece; he should be a perfect master of his language, speak it with all its purity, and with the utmost harmony, and yet so as not to make the sense a slave to the rhyme." -from Voltaire's Candide

"One could go so far as to claim that the sound of a living voice is all that lyric poetry conveys. The voice is the imprint of individuality. The tone of one's voice, as everybody knows, varies depending on that attitude one takes towards the words one is saying. In poetry, it is the voice that brings the breath of the living human being to us. The tone either persuades us that what is being said matters, or it does not, and that tone cannot be contrived." -Charles Simic

"We don't see germs because they are under the earth; we don't know the future because it is within us. Sometimes we seem to smell of decay, encumbered by the faded remains of the past; but if only we could see how many fat and white shoots are pushing forward in the old tilled soil, which is called the present day; how many seeds germinate in secret; how many old plants draw themselves together and concentrate into a living bud, which one day will burst into flowering life--if only we could see that secret swarming of the future within us, we should say that our melancholy and distrust is silly and absurd, and that the best thing of all is to be a living man--that is, a man who grows."-Karel Capek The Gardener's Year
